Not Simply an “Issue”

Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.  Matthew 18:14 KJV

God reminded me several days ago, that today is the 41st anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision of January 22, 1973.  So He implanted on my heart a desire to share something about this topic on this particular day.  However, as I sat down to write, it was difficult to barely fumble out a few measly words.  I had no clue what to say, but (because of 57 million), I knew something needed to be said.[1]

I was “clueless for words” until I got out my journal and began to read my entry speaking about this matter last year.  And since I found some “nuggets of truth” (as Pastor Henry referred to it), I decided to include some of the words from my journal here (though with some minor changes):

Today marks the forty-first year that abortion – or should I say, murder – is legal in this country.  I am living in a midst of people who are okay with murdering precious babies.  I exist among those who are fine with killing beautiful lives.  I was born in a world that hates life.  I started my life on a planet hostile toward life itself and Everything that matters most.  But God made me and placed me here so that through me, God might shine His glorious Light in the pitch darkness.

I am reminded of the words of the Psalmist: “Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.”[2]  I wonder how many C.T. Studds, Gladys Alywards, David Wilkersons, and Corrie ten Booms this world is missing because of abortion.  I wonder if those children, if those people, hadn’t been prematurely killed how many lives could have been won over for Christ….

God sees every single one of His precious ones whose life has been mercilessly cut short.  And the astounding truth is: He weeps for each and every one of them!  Surely this is not just a statistic for Him!  He cares about each of them and He actually enters into their pain!  Even as I write this, I hear the rain drops falling outside.  It reminds me that God is crying for every one of His children who were ruthlessly murdered.

To the Lord, abortion is not an “issue” like some people may have a “drug issue”, a “work issue” or a “financial issue”.  To Him, life is not an “issue” – so when human beings strive to purposefully cut short other’s existences (in other words, abort), He does not merely label it as an “abortion issue”.  Rather, God’s heart breaks over every single life lost through abortion!  It’s not simply “an issue”.  The very heart of God cries out for abortions to cease.

So what are we, as vessels of the Almighty God, supposed to do in regards to abortion?  I really don’t believe God intends for us to just throw up our hands, roll our eyes, and exclaim, “Whatever.”  He doesn’t desire us to sit around twiddling our spiritual thumbs.  But at the same time, it doesn’t mean we have to run the next presidential campaign in order to save these children.

God is on the move.  God wants to save these beloved little ones.  So He asks us to arise and pray and stand and fight.  Cry out on behalf of the voiceless[3]– because God through His Church will rescue lives all to His Glory.

About Paula Gooch

I am a daughter of the King, our Most High God. He has given His all for me and so my response is to live my life for His glory and His praise! {Isaiah 43:21, "This people have I formed for Myself; they shall [show] forth My praise."} The Christian life is about a response. We don't "have to do" certain things to receive God's mercies - Christ has already accomplished all that needs to be done! But since God gave His all for us, as we soak in that Truth and as God opens our spiritual eyes, our natural response is to praise and worship Him simply because He is worthy. That is why we serve, why we love the unlovable, why we pour out - not because we are "forced" to do it, but because once we've tasted and we've seen the Living Christ, how could we not praise Him, how could we not pour out our lives for Him, how could we not lay every crown at His feet?! {Psalm 34:8a, "O taste and see that the Lord is good"} It is my hope and prayer that as you read what I write, it would draw you into worshipping, praising, and glorifying our King. Let all that I say point you back to Christ who is the Only One Worthy. My last remark is to say that in Revelation 12:11, it says the people of God overcame the devil by the Blood of the Lamb (what was already done on the Cross which we cannot do in and of our own merit) and by the word of our testimony (which is God's faithfulness in our lives). I invite you to drop on in as I share little bits and pieces of God's faithfulness in my life and I pray you leave encouraged in Christ! All because He is worthy!!! ~Paula
