It’s Free!

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Romans 8:32 NKJV

Mar 2013_119Is this free? Where are we supposed to put donations? How much does this cost?

These are the type of questions that I was asked by numerous people throughout last year’s KHC Easter Egg Hunt.  I have volunteered at this event for quite a number of years, but it was my first year volunteering at the Welcome Center.  It was there that I saw many unfamiliar faces making these particular inquiries about the special event.  Though I did expect some to be asked these questions, I certainly did not anticipate that so many would be searching for these particular answers.

Though I could just ignore this observation, God pointed out to me a spiritual truth we can gain from this situation:  God’s love is free.

For most people who have not yet experienced the love of Christ, they have not had the opportunity to be served in a friendly way without paying a cost.  Sometimes the world seems to be “friendly” and appears to be “welcoming”, but inwardly seeks to entice and manipulate.  The world tries to lure more in, only to mark an unmerciful price tag on the temptation.

So as I answered time and time again, “No charge; no donation; already been paid for; go freely enjoy,” for many of those people, it took them a moment to take that reality in.  “Free?”

“Yes, free.”

“You mean if my child needs a bag for his eggs, we don’t need to give a donation?”

“No donation.”

“And we don’t need to sign in and register for our kids to hunt the eggs?”

“Not at all.  Just go enjoy the hunt.”

“Really?”

“Yes, really – we’re here to serve you.”

Then after those people choose their bags and pick up a map, they leave the welcome tent with a wide-eyed expression on their faces in shock that something so big like this would cost them nothing at all.  It is free because it has already been paid for so they can participate and enjoy without any restraint.

Welcome to Christianity.  Welcome to what Christ did on the Cross.  Welcome to the saving work of the grace of God.  Because of what Jesus did at Calvary, the punishment that was rightly ours has been paid for.  Now an eternal relationship with our Creator is completely free.  No pay, no donation, no strings attached – simply go freely enjoy!

Over two thousand years ago on the Cross, God demonstrated and freely extended His Love toward all people.  And because of that action, He continues to offer His unconditional, never-ending, everlasting, never failing, undaunted, and all-consuming love to everyone.  And for those who choose to accept it, there is absolutely no cost.

The Love of Christ is totally free – well, totally free for us.  A price was paid and there truly was a cost.  Sin is not cheap.  Forgiveness for sin is not inexpensive.  Freedom from sin is not a little fee.  The cost was no small fine – it had a big price tag which was the precious life of Christ.  But because He loves us so much, He gave the price that was necessary for our ransom.  Now we can participate and enjoy an intimacy and joy with our Father without any restraint whatsoever.

Consider bringing your family, inviting friends and neighbors, or volunteering at this year’s Easter Egg Hunt on April 19 to freely extend the love of Christ to those in our community.  And if you do, be sure to stop by the Welcome Center and say hi!

About Paula Gooch

I am a daughter of the King, our Most High God. He has given His all for me and so my response is to live my life for His glory and His praise! {Isaiah 43:21, "This people have I formed for Myself; they shall [show] forth My praise."} The Christian life is about a response. We don't "have to do" certain things to receive God's mercies - Christ has already accomplished all that needs to be done! But since God gave His all for us, as we soak in that Truth and as God opens our spiritual eyes, our natural response is to praise and worship Him simply because He is worthy. That is why we serve, why we love the unlovable, why we pour out - not because we are "forced" to do it, but because once we've tasted and we've seen the Living Christ, how could we not praise Him, how could we not pour out our lives for Him, how could we not lay every crown at His feet?! {Psalm 34:8a, "O taste and see that the Lord is good"} It is my hope and prayer that as you read what I write, it would draw you into worshipping, praising, and glorifying our King. Let all that I say point you back to Christ who is the Only One Worthy. My last remark is to say that in Revelation 12:11, it says the people of God overcame the devil by the Blood of the Lamb (what was already done on the Cross which we cannot do in and of our own merit) and by the word of our testimony (which is God's faithfulness in our lives). I invite you to drop on in as I share little bits and pieces of God's faithfulness in my life and I pray you leave encouraged in Christ! All because He is worthy!!! ~Paula
